You Never Really Know What They’re Thinking…

March 22nd, 2008

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m the proud Mom of an almost teenage daughter. She is a member of a girl’s group that shall go unnamed for obvious reasons (think cookies). Let me tell you, if you haven’t spent a lot of time around pre-teen girls, you haven’t lived (as in you haven’t thought alcohol was a reasonable self-medication).

The other day, prior to a meeting, my daughter was talking to some of her friends. Like most Moms, I can’t help but eavesdrop on the conversation whenever the girls get together. I was floored when I overheard several of the girls, my daughter included, talking about Jamie Lynn Spears. I could hardly believe my ears when one of the girls said, “I can’t believe that Disney didn’t fire her” and all the other girls agreed.

Now I’ve commented here about my feelings regarding the younger Ms. Spears being in “a family way,” but I haven’t discussed it with my daughter or any of her friends. Knowing all the girls involved in the conversation as well as I do I wasn’t surprised that they didn’t condone Jamie Lynn’s conduct. But I never would have guessed they would have thought that Disney should have canned her.

It goes to show you, if you raise them right, they’ll come around to my way of thinking, eventually.

What’s Worse, Disney or TMZ.com?

March 10th, 2008

What’s with Disney anyway? Their 16-year-old star of Zoey 101, Jamie Lynn Spears, gets pregnant out of wedlock and they renew the show? I liked the old Disney better, the Disney that provided our kids with positive role models, not “celebuwrecks” in the making, like Jamie Lynn Spears. Poor girl, she’s right on track to out-do her “celebuwrecks” sister, Britney Spears. Something sure went wrong in the Spears family.

Being the mother of a 12 (almost 13) year-old daughter, I’m worried every time she turns on the TV or goes on the Internet now that TMZ.com has both their website and a new TV show. It’s bad enough that Amy Winehouse is running around England stoned out of her mind in her red bra, I don’t need my kid watching it on TV. And then she wins, what, five Emmys. Oy vay! What’s a mother to do?

It’s About Time I Gave You My Opinion

March 9th, 2008

Well, I’ve been telling my family, my friends, and just about anyone who will listen about my view on how they should run their lives. Now I’ll be sharing my opinions with you. If you agree, great, let me know. If you don’t, you can still let me know what you think, but I’ll definitely tell you what I think your opinion should be. So here we go…
